FAQs

As the largest club in NorCal we offer the most opportunities to play: the most practices, the most tournaments, the most time spent with a stick in hand. Our size allows us to field multiple teams at each age group, ensuring every player is appropriately supported and challenged.

Our knowledgeable and dedicated coaches are all registered with USA Field Hockey, prepared to teach "The USA Way" using Hawks 5 core values: Family, Fun, Hardwork, Growth, and Competitive Spirit.

All players are required to bring the following:

  • A skill and height-appropriate stick (we recommend taking this quiz to find the right stick for you)
  • Field hockey shinguards
  • Turf shoes
  • Mouthguard
  • Left-handed glove (U16+ only)

If a player plans to play indoor with us, we require the above and the following:

  • An indoor stick
  • Court shoes
  • Right and left-handed gloves

All players will be given a free Hawks pinnie at their first practice. Pinnies can be traded in for a larger size as players grow. If a pinnie is lost, a replacement can be purchased on the fan gear shop.

Yes! We offer year-round playing opportunities.

Fall: August - November, U06 - U14, Specialty Sessions, Tournaments. U16 and U19 teams are paused for the high school field hockey season

Winter: December - March, U06 - U19, Specialty Sessions, Tournaments

Spring: March - May/June, U06 - U19, Specialty Sessions, Tournaments

Summer: June-August, we offer week-long summer camps for players U06-U14. We offer summer pre-season camps for High School players

Our practices are held at a variety of fields across the Bay Area, including our brand new AstroTurf field in Pacifica. During the Winter Season we will reserve space at public fields in San Francisco. Our schedule is dependent upon the SF Rec & Parks Field Lottery, the results of which we will communicate to parents as soon as our locations and time slots are finalized. During the week, our practices will always be held after school, usually in the 5:30 - 7PM time slot. We practice at multiple fields during a season.

Current practice facilities include Paul Goode Field, and our brand new AstroTurf field at Fairmont Field.

Past facilities include Beach Chalet Athletic Fields, Crocker Amazon Soccer Fields, Raymond Kimbell Playground Park, South Sunset Soccer Fields, Mission Playground Park, Garfield Square, and Joe DiMaggio Playground.

Age groups that only practice once a week (U06,  U08, and U10) will have their practice on Sundays at Paul Goode Field, time TBD.

Yes! Boys and girls U06 - U19 are welcome to play with Hawks.

All of our practices are co-ed. U06 - U14 tournaments are nearly all co-ed. U16+ tournaments are often separated by gender. We help place boys as guest players on other teams if we cannot field a boys team of our own.

Tournaments are a great opportunity to demonstrate your skill against competition and to grow as a field hockey player. Registration fee for local tournaments is included in the seasonal fee. There is an incremental fee for travel tournaments. Tournaments are also a great team bonding experience. Please note that tournaments are not mandatory

No, we do not have try-outs for any of our teams. We welcome players of all skill levels.

At the start of each season, coaches and admin will assess player skills through casual observation, and these evaluations will be used to form teams within age groups. This is not a try-out! Even makes the team, everyone gets to play.

Between the Winter and Spring season, players will continue with their same team unless the coach determines they are progressing at a different rate from their peers.

Playing time is not guaranteed to be equal. However, every player will play at tournaments. At the younger age groups, coaches place a strong emphasis on development and participation, so playing time is more evenly distributed. As players move into older and more competitive levels, playing time is based more on effort, attendance, attitude, and game-day needs, while still ensuring that all athletes have opportunities to contribute and grow.

We've got an amazing coaches staff of former D1 athletes, international players, and fun high schoolers! Learn more about our coaches here.

Yes! We'd love to introduce you to the best sport in the world (but we are a little biased.)

Make sure you've got everything you need before the first practice, and we'll show you the rest.

We love multi-sport athletes! We understand the busy schedule of multi-sport student athletes. So, we've added a Sunday-only option for high school players who don't want their stick skills to get rusty during the off-season.

With the Sunday-only option players can attend Sunday practices and our Sunday hitting or goalkeeper sessions. Local tournament fees are still covered by this option!

Our goal is to place players on teams with their peers in terms of field hockey technical and tactical skills. Our goal is also to have players play within their age group. As enrollment grows we will adjust our team counts to ensure right sized teams for practices and tournaments

---

Razorback or Crewneck, Skirt or Shorts
Players can decide if they would prefer a razorback or crew neck style jersey and if they prefer skirt or shorts for the bottom. Typically the girls select the razor back and skirt option and the boys select the short sleeve/crew neck and short option. We do not care what players select, its their preference.

Sizing
The uniform sizing is VERY tricky. If this is your first time ordering a Hawks uniform then I HIGHLY recommend you try on the sample sizes at practice. We will have samples available at practice during the first week of the season.

Personalization
LAST
 NAME on Jersey

All jerseys will be customized with name on the back. Please use your last name.

Jersey Number

Players can select their own jersey number assuming its available in their age group. Instrucitons on selecting a Jersey number

  1. Open the HAWKS Jersey Number List google sheet. DO NOT REODER THE SHEET
  2. Open the "enter your choice here" tab. Add your players first name, last name and desired jersey number to the first available bottom row. Please pick a number between 2-99 (no triple digit numbers). Please do not reorder the list based on birth year. As numbers are available on a first come, first serve basis
  3. Open the "check here" tab to see if no one in your birth year, one year older or one year younger has the same number. Said another way, no one in consecutive birth years can have the same number. This is to prevent players with the same number on the same team. For example, Olivia van de Braak is a 2009 and is nr 2. There can be no other Nr 2s in 2009, 2008 or 2010. Another example, Luke van de Braak is a 2007 and Kushi is a 2009. They are both #5. This is okay as their birth years are not consecutive.
  4. Allow for additional years if your player is in high school as we sometimes combine U16 and U19 teams for tournaments and games.

All jersey numbers must be APPROVED before ordering. Please email me offline if you need approval.

Shipping / Distribution of Uniforms

Please select "organization will distribute" as this is the faster delivery option. This option will present itself at the end of the check out process. The store will ask for your shipping address before you are given the option to select "organization will distribute". Please continue through the check out process. All uniforms will be distributed at a practice 6 weeks post order.

There is no change to the uniforms from previous seasons. If your uniform still fits then there is no need to order a new one.
